FACES Campaign

What Is It?

The “Help Me Read: Faces Campaign,” introduced in November 2012 with the full-scale two-week temporary art exhibit launch scheduled to begin with Literacy Week on January 14, 2013, is a community-wide program to increase awareness and garner support for the Indian River County School District’s goal of 90% childhood literacy by third grade. Part of the TedTalk 2011 award-winning, global art project “Inside Out,” the Faces Campaign will feature large-scale black-and-white posters of local children to support our message: “Help me read; it changes who WE become.” These posters will be placed at visible locations throughout the county, with the mission to generate a conversation about the importance of improving childhood literacy.

How Does It Work?

Local photographers will take photos of faces of local children, and these photos will be converted to large-scale black-and-white posters. The posters will be 5’ x 3’and displayed prominently throughout the county between January 14, 2013 through January 25, 2013.   From the photos to the paste-up of the posters, there will be opportunities to draw attention to and garner support for the 90% childhood literacy goal. Once the posters are in place, people will see them and will either look to the business/building owner or local media to explain what the posters are about, thereby providing another opportunity to discuss this important goal.
