FACES Campaign

What Is It?

The “Help Me Read: Faces Campaign,” introduced in November 2012 with the full-scale two-week temporary art exhibit launch scheduled to begin with Literacy Week on January 14, 2013, is a community-wide program to increase awareness and garner support for the Indian River County School District’s goal of 90% childhood literacy by third grade. Part of the TedTalk 2011 award-winning, global art project “Inside Out,” the Faces Campaign will feature large-scale black-and-white posters of local children to support our message: “Help me read; it changes who WE become.” These posters will be placed at visible locations throughout the county, with the mission to generate a conversation about the importance of improving childhood literacy.

How Does It Work?

Local photographers will take photos of faces of local children, and these photos will be converted to large-scale black-and-white posters. The posters will be 5’ x 3’and displayed prominently throughout the county between January 14, 2013 through January 25, 2013.   From the photos to the paste-up of the posters, there will be opportunities to draw attention to and garner support for the 90% childhood literacy goal. Once the posters are in place, people will see them and will either look to the business/building owner or local media to explain what the posters are about, thereby providing another opportunity to discuss this important goal.

How Can I Participate?

  1. Take the pledge to support childhood literacy Click Here

  2. Visit one of the paste-up locations and talk with your co-workers, friends, family and neighbors about the need for the entire community to support the School District's "Moonshot Moment" goal.  We need the support of everyone in Indian River County!

  3. Contact us if you would like to have a poster pasted up on your office walls.

Together, we can transform a generation!
